HOUSTON -- The trial of a boy accused of killing his father when he was 10 years old began Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reports.

The boy is accused of shooting his father, Rick Lohstroh, to death in August 2004. The boy allegedly shot his father in his vehicle when he picked his son up from his mother's west Harris County home.

Detectives said the boy got the gun from his mother's bedroom.

lohstroh and the boy's mother, Deborah Geisler, were divorced.

The judge has closed the trial to the public and the media.

If convicted, the boy could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.
